Abstract: Energy expenditure and autonomic regulation are key determinants of athletic performance and health, yet little research has compared predicted metabolic and heart rate variability (HRV) profiles across sport-specific populations. This study examined sport-specific variations in predicted basal metabolic rate (BMR), daily caloric needs, and HRV among sedentary individuals, cricketers, and throwing-event athletes. A cross-sectional comparative design was used, involving 45 male participants aged 18–25 years. Anthropometric measurements were recorded to calculate body mass index (BMI), and BMR and daily caloric needs were estimated using the Harris–Benedict equation. HRV parameters were collected in a resting supine position using a Polar V800 heart rate monitor and analyzed with Kubios software. The sedentary group presented the highest BMI (24.17±2.03 kg/m²) and BMR (1768.19±134.34 kcal/day), whereas cricketers (20.48±0.70 kg/m²; 1589.55±49.03 kcal/day) and athletes (20.42±3.95 kg/m²; 1553.30±209.06 kcal/day) showed lower BMI and lower resting metabolic expenditure. In contrast, athletes and cricketers demonstrated markedly higher caloric requirements (2679.44±360.63 kcal/day and 2741.97±84.58 kcal/day, respectively), reflecting increased energy turnover. Cricketers exhibited the highest RMSSD (66.8±21.6 ms) and pNN50 (45.8±15.9%), indicating strong parasympathetic modulation, followed by throwing-event athletes (RMSSD 53.7±17.7 ms; pNN50 34.8±17.5%), while sedentary participants showed the lowest parasympathetic activity (RMSSD 44.1±17.6 ms; pNN50 24.7±15.9%). These findings demonstrate that regular sport participation influences both metabolic efficiency and autonomic regulation. Integrating predicted metabolic measures with HRV assessment offers a multidimensional approach to understanding physiological adaptation and supporting individualized nutritional and training strategies in sport science practice.
