Abstract: Purpose: The purpose of the study was to compare the strength and endurance abilities of hockey and soccer players.
Materials & Method: For the study, 60 male players (30 from hockey and 30 from soccer) were selected from Gurukula Kangri (Deemed to be university) Haridwar, Uttarakhand, who were represented in inter-university tournaments. The players were selected randomly as subjects for this study. The age group of the subjects was between 18 to 25 years. As per the purpose of the study, strength and endurance abilities were treated as dependent variables, and as far as independent variables are concerned, they were a 12-minute run/walk test and bent knee sit-ups (one minute) to measure endurance and strength, respectively. The ‘t’ test was used to compare the strength and endurance abilities of hockey and soccer players. The level of significance was set at 0.05.
Results & Conclusion: The results of the study revealed that there is a significant difference found between the hockey and soccer players concerning selected variables, i.e., strength and endurance. It may be fairly concluded that the strength and endurance abilities of hockey players are better than those of soccer players.
