Abstract: Athletic performance is influenced by a complex interplay of factors, with socio-economic conditions playing a pivotal role in shaping both individual and team game outcomes. This comprehensive review examines the multifaceted socio-economic influences on athletic performance, focusing on both individual sports and team games. The review synthesizes existing literature across various domains, including access to resources, socio-economic status, cultural factors, and institutional support, to provide a holistic understanding of how these elements impact athletes. For individual sports, the review highlights how socio-economic factors such as income, education, and access to training facilities affect athletes' performance and career trajectories. Wealthier athletes typically benefit from superior training environments, nutritional support, and specialized coaching, which can enhance their competitive edge. Conversely, athletes from lower socio-economic backgrounds may face barriers such as limited access to facilities, financial constraints, and fewer opportunities for skill development, which can hinder their performance and limit their potential. In the context of team sports, the review explores how socio-economic variables influence team dynamics, including recruitment, training, and performance. Teams from affluent backgrounds often have better access to high-quality coaching, advanced facilities, and financial resources, leading to higher levels of performance and success. Conversely, teams from less privileged socio-economic backgrounds may struggle with inadequate resources, affecting their ability to compete at higher levels and achieve optimal outcomes. Additionally, the review discusses the role of cultural and institutional factors in shaping socio-economic influences on athletic performance. Cultural attitudes towards sports, societal support systems, and government policies can either mitigate or exacerbate the impact of socio-economic disparities. For instance, countries with strong sports infrastructure and supportive policies may provide more equitable opportunities for athletes, regardless of their socio-economic background. The review concludes by emphasizing the need for targeted interventions and policy changes to address socio-economic disparities in sports. Recommendations include increasing investment in grassroots sports programs, improving access to training facilities for disadvantaged athletes, and fostering inclusive policies that support diverse talent pools. By addressing these socio-economic challenges, stakeholders can work towards creating a more equitable and competitive sports environment, ultimately enhancing overall athletic performance across both individual and team sports.
