Abstract: The study “'The Interplay between E-Sports and Traditional Sports Engagement: A Neuro-Cognitive and Biomechanical Comparative Study of Cognitive, Physical, and Psychosocial Skills” explored the comparative interplay between e-sports and traditional sports by focusing on cognitive, physical, and psychosocial skills through neuro-cognitive and biomechanical analyses. A total of 120 athletes were recruited, divided into e-sports and traditional sports groups, with sub-grouping into strategy-based and action-based e-sports athletes and endurance and skill-based traditional sports athletes. Neuro-cognitive performance was assessed using standardized tests, including the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, complemented by real-time neuroimaging techniques such as fMRI and EEG to measure decision-making speed, attentional control, and cognitive load. Biomechanical performance was evaluated through motion capture and electromyography for traditional sports, and hand-eye coordination and posture were assessed for e-sports athletes using EMG and eye-tracking technology. The results revealed that e-sports athletes exhibited significantly faster decision-making speeds and enhanced attentional focus, with increased activation in the prefrontal cortex, indicating efficient cognitive load management. In contrast, traditional sports athletes demonstrated greater muscle activation, joint flexibility, and physical endurance, highlighting the robust integration of cognitive and physical skills inherent in traditional sports. Psychosocial assessments further showed that e-sports athletes excelled in teamwork and communication, while traditional sports athletes showed higher levels of mental toughness and leadership. The findings underscored that e-sports and traditional sports each develop unique and valuable skill sets. E-sports foster cognitive agility and effective team-based communication, whereas traditional sports enhance physical resilience and emotional endurance. Integrating elements from both domains could offer a more comprehensive approach to athletic and cognitive development, suggesting that e-sports and traditional sports complement each other in the evolving landscape of sports and physical training.
